Trip to Peru

Hello Everyone!

Well here I am in Lima Peru and what a week.

I arrived 21st July Wednesday into Lima Peru at 10pm stayed the night and was up the next day at 3am to catch a 545am flight to Cusco just an hour away. The flight was delayed 6 hrs, so not happy but not much one can do. So while waiting I got a pedicure at the airport and slept!
Finally arrived in Cusco at 2pm and what a beautiful place. Cusco is very high above sea level so one can get altitude sickness which I suffer from very badly so was able to get some pills to take which are supposed to help and while I was in Cusco and Machu Picchu I felt very good so guess they did the trick.

Our hotel was great. People here are so friendly. So the rest of the day walked around the town ate some local food, had pics taken with some lambs and alpacas and changed for a night on the town.
Went to a local Salsa bar and had an amazing time. Latinos certainly know how to enjoy themselves.

Next morning up bright and early 5am for a 2 hour bus ride and a 2hr train ride to Machu Picchu. What an experience and beautiful scenery through the mountains and the valleys seeing local people living in what seems like the middle of nowhere.

Arrived in Machu Picchu and went straight to our hotel Gringo Bills and then the afternoon was spent at Machu Picchu. The only way there is to take a 20 min bus ride or hike! So we took the bus there.
Words cannot describe Machu Picchu so I will have pics posted next week.

After our time there we decided to hike back which took 2 hrs and at the first available restaurant we stopped to eat.
At high altitude everything seems to take so much more energy so that 2 hour hike felt like 4hrs!

Next day we took train to Sacred Valley another amazing place!
Bus ride back to Cusco Friday 23rd and stayed overnight. We went to an upscale bar and club where everyone is gearing up for Perus Independance Day on Thurs 29 July. A local band played local music so danced the night away.

Today is Monday 26 July and back in Lima for the remainder of our trip until Thurs when we head back.

Its winter here in Peru so cool and overcast which is quite a contrast from the warm sunny days we left behind in the mountains!
See you all soon for more adventures

Stay strong Gayle xx
